When the weather doesn’t cooperate — whether it’s the summer heat or a rainy afternoon — a big indoor aquarium is exactly the kind of place that saves the day with young kids. That’s how we ended up at Aqua Planet Ilsan, and it turned out to be one of the easiest full-day outings we’ve done as a family. If you’re planning a trip to Aqua Planet Ilsan with kids, here’s an honest, practical guide from a parent who did the whole day with two little ones in tow.
Where It Is & Getting There
Aqua Planet Ilsan is located in Goyang (the Ilsan area), just outside Seoul, right next to the KINTEX convention center. If you’re coming without a car, take Subway Line 3 to Daehwa Station and it’s a short walk from there — very doable with a stroller. If you’re driving, there’s parking around the KINTEX complex.
Grab a look at the visitor route map when you arrive. The course runs from the jellyfish zone and main tanks, through the jungle area, and up to the rooftop Sky Farm — planning your path saves a lot of backtracking with kids.
The entrance hall sets the tone right away, with giant shark and stingray models hanging overhead and a fun mermaid-themed staircase.
More Than Just Fish: The Sea Life
Our kids are obsessed with sea creatures, so this was the main draw — and it delivered. The big tanks were the clear highlight; watching a huge ray glide right overhead is the kind of moment little ones don’t forget.
Even the smaller displays are beautifully done, like a goldfish tank framed by cascading wisteria that turned into one of our favorite photo spots.
The touch pool was another big hit — tiny fish nibbling at little hands got plenty of giggles, and it’s a great hands-on break from just looking through glass.
The penguin habitat is always a crowd-pleaser too.
The Jungle Zone
Beyond the aquarium tanks, there’s a jungle-themed zone that was a nice surprise and kept things varied. It’s stroller-friendly throughout, with tropical large-fish tanks and a walk-through tunnel.
The live animals here — like the squirrel monkeys — kept our kids fascinated far longer than we expected.
Shows & Feeding Times
Throughout the day there are shows and ecology talks worth planning around. The main tank hosts a light-and-music show (“Deep Blue Ocean – Dance of Light”), and one of our absolute favorites was the walrus ecology show at the 3F Ocean Arena (held a couple of times a day). Meet Mary the walrus — the show even explains how her teeth are kept clean as part of her daily care. There are also parrot ecology talks, capybara story time, and ray feeding. Grab a program schedule when you enter and plan around the ones you want to catch — note that some talks may be cancelled depending on the animals’ condition.
Rooftop Animal Feeding (Our Kids’ Favorite)
One of the highlights was the rooftop Sky Farm, where kids can feed animals like ponies, goats, and rabbits. This hands-on experience was easily one of our children’s favorite parts of the day — much more memorable than just looking through glass. If your kids love interacting with animals, don’t skip the rooftop.
Where to Eat
On the first floor there’s a dining space where you can sit down and eat with the kids, which made the day much more relaxed — no need to leave the building for lunch. The menu is family-friendly, with options like pork cutlet, a rice-or-pasta and seasoned-chicken combo set (around ₩15,000), kid-sized spaghetti from ₩7,000, and family-size pizzas (super combination, bulgogi, pepperoni) around ₩16,000 each. We also packed a few snacks, which helped between exhibits.
Special Exhibit: Da-Heuk’s Reptile Show (Limited Time)
During our visit, there was a special reptile and insect exhibition on basement level 1, hosted by Da-Heuk (다흑), a well-known Korean reptile YouTuber, and it was included with our admission. This particular exhibit was running through August 2026 when we went, but special exhibits like this are seasonal and change periodically — so check the official website before you go to see what’s currently on. You may catch something completely different.
Our Honest Take
Aqua Planet Ilsan with kids is an easy day to recommend, especially on a hot or rainy day when you want everything indoors. Between the sea life, the jungle zone, the walrus show, the rooftop feeding experience, and rotating special exhibits, it’s genuinely a full day rather than a quick stop.
